Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, will address the European HOPE XXL Conference in Leiden on 6 December 2012. Tickets are available now and you are warmly invited to attend.
HOPE XXL is developing a new vision for the future shared by young people worldwide, to ensure that all world citizens can achieve a life they would grade as “good.” This vision will be presented to the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. For the young people all over the world who have joined HOPE XXL, Mr. Annan’s contribution is a great sign of support on their way to the United Nations.
During the conference Kofi Annan will provide his unique perspective on international relations and share the experiences reflected in his recent book: Interventions: A Life in War and Peace.
The event will also welcome Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, who will contribute through a video message and Prof. Klaas van Egmond who will provide an introduction to the event. Leo Bormans, author of the World Book of Happiness, will inspire the audience with his call for optimism.
The event is part of a three day conference
during which young people from over 25 European countries will work together to develop their vision of the future. On Saturday, 8 December, the participants will present the results of the conference: the vision of young people for the coming decades.

served two terms as Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. In 2001 Kofi Annan and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. Since leaving the United Nations, Kofi Annan has continued to press for better policies to meet the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly in Africa. Through the Kofi Annan Foundation, he remains active in mediation and conflict resolution activities, and is a strong advocate for good governance, the rule of law and human rights.
