Society is increasingly focusing on upcycling and sustainability. Neglected buildings and structures are often overlooked for upcycling, and end up covered with unwanted graffiti. Van Zooi naar Mooi (Dutch for "From Thrash to Beautiful") proves that it is possible to turn unwanted graffiti on buildings and structures into an artwork. Through a structured approach, young people collaborated with a professional artist and the municipality to create exciting compositions of streetart.
The artwork was made possible by the municipality of Westervoort, Rijkswaterstaat and the talented street-artist Rosalie De Graaf (@roosartpaintings).
The project targeted multiple spots in the city of Westervoort, one of which was the Creon building. HOPE XXL youth cleaned up the walls, after which painting commenced.
